Each year thousands of consumers become victims to criminals that operate on the Internet.  The most common technique used by Internet criminals is called Phishing or Spoofing.  This fraudulent activity works by tricking consumers into thinking that official looking and sounding e-mails were sent by banks and other businesses that maintain your nonpublic personal financial information as well as access to bank accounts.

These phony emails usually trick consumers into clicking on a link that takes them to a fake Web site where personal information is collected for the purpose of stealing money and other assets. Some of the phony e-mails caution that if you do not do this, the account may be suspended.

Phishing and spoofing attempts are the most common types of online fraud. If you should ever receive an email that appears to be suspicious, do not reply to it or click on the link it provides.
